Keep the story interesting, real life is boring enough, gaming doesn’t have to be boring too.
Don’t try to kill the players, you want them to live to play another day, but maiming them is always okay.
Be flexible, players will probably always think of something you haven’t thought of, and what they suggest could be a good turn for the game’s story line so learn to sometimes go with it.
Be on your toes since the players are probably thinking of things you haven’t, and when they do then you will need to be ready for them.
